The wrap of the period, at the historical series price. The price may be documented or estimated, as explained in the year’s sources.

Base series · period gyros/month · scenario start 1998
31.47 € ÷ 0.049 € ≈ 642 period gyros/month
After contributions, before income tax. Annual income divided by 12, using 14 payments throughout the series. Wage and contributions are twelve-month means. Purchasing power in period gyros.
The quotient is rounded to a whole number.
Only the price varies within its published bounds. Wage and composition stay fixed. This is neither a total uncertainty range nor a statistical confidence interval. Bounds come from the model's selected percentage band.
Estimate with range
Selected estimate with a modelling range, without a directly documented price.
Annual reconstruction of the gyro-in-pita ceiling in Messinia: 40 days × 13 GRD + 297 days × 15 GRD + 29 days × 17 GRD, divided by 366 = ≈14.94 GRD. Adjusted by the existing 1.11 factor. Continuity and use of a regional price as a national proxy are assumptions, not a measured national mean. Replaces the erroneous bread-price input.
The era view applies no meat-weight or composition rescaling to a classic product.
What do the sources support?
B: Regulated, single-source or an estimate with a range
Categories describe how the price enters the model. They do not certify original-source verification, representative sampling or historical product composition.
Rescaled to a common reference product with 88 g of gyro meat and fries. A calculated price, not a second observed shop price.

Historical meat weights and changes in composition are model assumptions, not a series of market measurements. The assumed peak and decline in portion size need verification. The present-day weight defines the reference product. The era price refers to the wrap sold at the time; the classic price and weight-adjusted index depend on these assumptions.

Both prices are expressed in money of the same year. Classic rescaling adjusts composition, not inflation.

Detailed evidence and calculation
What is supported for this year
We examine price, date, place and product composition separately. Evidence for the price does not establish historical meat weights.
Reviewed with outstanding questions · 14 Sept 2026
Price
The old mapping of bread prices to pita has been corrected. The anchor is now a calculated annual gyro-in-pita ceiling with the existing model uplift. It is not a direct observation of an annual mean market price.
Date
The calendar uses the exact commencement dates of the Messinia orders, includes leap day and assumes continuity until the next known amendment. Absence of other intermediate orders has not been exhaustively certified.
Geography
A Messinia regional ceiling, not a national sample. Additional reports corroborate product distinctions and levels, not a national average. Its use in the Index remains a national proxy with explicit assumptions.
Composition
Historical meat weights and changes in composition are model assumptions, not a series of market measurements. The assumed peak and decline in portion size need verification. The present-day weight defines the reference product. The era price refers to the wrap sold at the time; the classic price and weight-adjusted index depend on these assumptions.
A source entry is not always the final price. These are the inputs retained by the model, without implying fresh verification of the original.
1. Amount before rescaling
0.044 €
The recorded original amount before any rescaling. It may be a regulated ceiling or composite input, not an individual purchase.
2. Model input
0.049 €
Annual reconstruction of the gyro-in-pita ceiling in Messinia: 40 days × 13 GRD + 297 days × 15 GRD + 29 days × 17 GRD, divided by 366 = ≈14.94 GRD. Adjusted by the existing 1.11 factor. Continuity and use of a regional price as a national proxy are assumptions, not a measured national mean. Replaces the erroneous bread-price input.
3. Period price in the series
0.049 €
The final price used for period purchasing power. Classic composition rescaling is a separate subsequent step.
In some years an anchor constrains the range rather than replacing the calculated price. Historical amounts use the fixed drachma-to-euro conversion, without inflation adjustment.

Rescaling scenario: Base series (anchors, estimates and derived prices)
The series wage is the 12-month mean of the monthly register, not the amount in the act. The year's act is one of the sources of the register's months.

What the contemporary press reported
Heraklion: revised gyro ceiling with a separate pita price

Reported commencement:
Gyro or patty with pita and seasoning: ceiling

Gyro or patty with bread: ceiling

Pork skewer with pita: ceiling
15 GRD
The report specifies commencement on 9 February in Heraklion Prefecture. It does not state whether the meat weight is raw or cooked. Bread and pita have different prices. It cannot automatically be combined with the November report used by the model: product, geography and period must be matched.
Needed: rechecking the product in the November source and prefectural orders covering the full year.
Supporting evidence. Not used directly as an annual price.
Issue 24553, p. 4. Market Order 5, 8 February 1980, EM 694, articles 1–3. The newspaper issue is dated 9 February 1980.

The order date differs from the newspaper date. Commencement the day after publication gives 10 February, distinct from Heraklion’s commencement. The order explicitly repeals Order 15/1979 and retains the other provisions of 10/1979. Matching local prices do not constitute a nationwide sample or evidence of shop compliance.
Further research: other intermediate amendments and full national orders for geographic comparison. The current annual reconstruction explicitly assumes continuity.

The order applies to standing customers throughout Messinia from the day after publication and repeals Order 5/1980. It cites national Order 105/1980 for Attica through TELEX A1-7944 of 29 Nov 1980, authorising local regulation. That reference does not establish identical prices or commencement in Attica. These are legal ceilings and requirements, not transactions or actual weighings.

The old anchor treated these amounts as pita prices. The following issue identifies them as bread prices. The anchor is replaced by the Messinia calendar explicitly defining gyro in pita. The original item specifies neither bread/pita, weight nor prefecture.
Original amounts are retained to make the correction auditable. They no longer supply a price input.

“From today” refers to the issue date. The paragraph specifies pita/bread, not meat type or prefecture. It corrects the earlier mapping of the 28 November amounts to pita. The replacement anchor uses the separate Messinia orders that explicitly identify gyro.
Neither a ceiling nor a newspaper report establishes a national mean transaction price.
