Historical meat weights and changes in composition are model assumptions, not a series of market measurements. The assumed peak and decline in portion size need verification. The present-day weight defines the reference product. The era price refers to the wrap sold at the time; the classic price and weight-adjusted index depend on these assumptions.

Both prices are expressed in money of the same year. Classic rescaling adjusts composition, not inflation.

What does the comparison assume?

Historical meat weights and changes in composition are model assumptions, not a series of market measurements. The assumed peak and decline in portion size need verification. The present-day weight defines the reference product. The era price refers to the wrap sold at the time; the classic price and weight-adjusted index depend on these assumptions.

Which findings hold up?

We combine 2 wage bases, 4 historical-price choices and 7 composition specifications across 50 completed years, 1976–2025.

Counts are not probabilities. Payroll reconstruction remains under review. Portion scenarios are not measurements; geography and sale channel stay fixed.

Detailed evidence and calculation

What is supported for this year

We examine price, date, place and product composition separately. Evidence for the price does not establish historical meat weights.

The detailed year review is pending. This does not mean no sources exist.

Composition
Historical meat weights and changes in composition are model assumptions, not a series of market measurements. The assumed peak and decline in portion size need verification. The present-day weight defines the reference product. The era price refers to the wrap sold at the time; the classic price and weight-adjusted index depend on these assumptions.

From source to series price

A source entry is not always the final price. These are the inputs retained by the model, without implying fresh verification of the original.

  1. 1. Amount before rescaling

    Not separately recorded

The recorded original amount before any rescaling. It may be a regulated ceiling or composite input, not an individual purchase.

  2. 2. Model input

    No anchor for this year

The price is calculated from other years and series rules. It is not presented as a new observation.

  3. 3. Period price in the series

    0.039 €

The final price used for period purchasing power. Classic composition rescaling is a separate subsequent step.

In some years an anchor constrains the range rather than replacing the calculated price. Historical amounts use the fixed drachma-to-euro conversion, without inflation adjustment.

What the contemporary press reported

Messinia: regulated gyro-pita price from January

Σημαία ·

Issue 20828, p. 1, lower left. Market Order 1/1979, EM 402, articles 1–3.

Effective from:

Gyro or patty with pita and seasoning, regulated price
11 GRD
Gyro or patty with bread, regulated price
10 GRD
Cooked-gyro specification, not an actual weighing
37–40 g

The issue prints the order itself, signed by the prefect, with explicit commencement on 29 January. Gyro meat weight is specified cooked, while the fat limit applies to raw meat. Prices concern standing customers in Messinia. Neither transactions nor the days before commencement are established.

Preceding Order 9/1978 and intermediate Order 10/1979 were verified. Continuity is presented as a separate reconstruction with an explicit no-other-amendments assumption.

Supporting evidence. Not used directly as an annual price.

Messinia: the intermediate order retains the pita price

Σημαία ·

Issue 20930, pp. 1 and 4. Market Order 10, 1 June 1979, protocol 2265. Page 4: article 1, souvlaki section, and articles 4–6.

Effective from:

Gyro or patty with pita and seasoning, regulated price
11 GRD
Gyro or patty with bread, regulated price
10 GRD
Cooked-gyro specification, not a serving measurement
37–40 g

The order explicitly repeals Order 1/1979 and retains its gyro-pita and bread prices. Commencement the day after publication gives 6 June. Souvlaki is explicitly excluded from the geographic reduction of other regulated prices and has the same schedule throughout the prefecture. The optional seated-service surcharge is a separate rule, not a new selling-price observation.

The next captured amendment is Order 15/1979. Actual shop prices and a completeness review of the legal sequence are needed.

Supporting evidence. Not used directly as an annual price.

Messinia: revised gyro-pita price and a minimum pita weight

Θάρρος ·

Issue 24372, p. 1, lower centre. Market Order 15, 2 July 1979, EM 2921, articles 1–3.

Effective from:

Gyro or patty with pita and seasoning, regulated price

Gyro or patty with bread, regulated price
11 GRD
Pork skewer with pita, regulated price
12 GRD
Cooked-gyro specification
37–40 g
Minimum pita-bread weight, not the whole wrap
65 g

The order amends Order 10 of 1 June 1979 and takes effect the day after publication, giving 4 July from this dated issue. Gyro and pork skewers are priced separately. Gyro weight is cooked; skewer pork is raw. These are regulatory requirements, not measurements of actual servings.

Further research: other intermediate amendments and full national orders for geographic comparison. The current annual reconstruction explicitly assumes continuity.

Evidence for the regional calendar feeding the 1980 anchor. National representativeness remains an assumption.

Reports a price-control order commencing the following day, without an explicit prefecture. The later Messinia order confirms a within-year change on its own date. An unchanged price in a May order does not establish a full-year 1979 freeze. That interpolation override is removed; the interpolated annual price is not relabelled as a national observation.

Neither a ceiling nor a newspaper report establishes a national mean transaction price.
