The quickest way to understand what Gyronomics measures, with no economics jargon.

Take the net minimum wage
For every year 1985-2026 we keep the net monthly minimum wage. In 2026 it is €792.

Find the average gyro price
Prices come from published sources and from food-service price indices. For 2026 we compute €4.89.

Divide: wage / price
The result is the index: how many gyros the wage buys in a month. In 2026 that is 162 gyros.

Compare years
The same calculation per year shows purchasing power over time. In 2002 the index was 528 gyros.

Reverse it
Hold an older year's gyro count fixed and compute how high today's wage would need to be to buy it.
