Regular monthly measurement

Gyro prices by city, September 2026

The first regular reading of the three platforms, on 25 September 2026: 1,654 shops with a gyro pita in 78 cities. Each price is what the customer pays on the platform.

Every month the measurement is published as a bulletin, like a monthly CPI release: Monthly Pita-Gyro Price Index.

This is a level, not a rate. The first monthly change comes in October, comparing each shop with itself, with the median and the geometric mean side by side. The measurement does not change the Index or its 2026 figure: the monthly series starts separately, and from 2027 the annual figure is the mean of twelve months.

A shop that was read but has no gyro pita is not in the city table; many candidates come from general Greek-cuisine listings. A shop that was not read is never counted as a shop without gyros.

Against the 8 September pilot

In the 14 cities with at least 20 shops in both readings, the median is unchanged or within 0.05 € in 12. It moved more in:

Heraklion: 4.95 € → 5.30 € (36 → 37 shops)
Rhodes: 4.40 € → 4.50 € (29 → 29 shops)

A finding, not a correction and not a rate: the pilot kept no product identifiers, and a median also moves when shops enter or leave.

Not read, by name (8)

Eight C shops were not read in two readings on 25 September. Seven return 422 SHOP_NOT_FOUND_BY_VANITYURL (Shop not found in db): listed in the sitemap but closed on the platform; one is in the excluded kouzines area. masouths-argyroupolh is found, but its catalogue returns 403 GET_ITEMS_ACCESS_DENIED for that shop only; the other 562 on the platform were read. They are not counted as shops without gyros. Frozen on 25 September by user decision, without the 28 September fallback.

Preparing the next collection

We keep tracking the same item

The pilot's 36 platform entries yielded 18 products with unique identities across 13 cities. Their identifiers are pinned for follow-up. A newly listed cheaper item does not replace the item we were tracking.

If the product is not found, becomes unavailable or has changed catalogue details, the comparison is flagged for review. Matching identifiers alone do not prove unchanged ingredients, serving weight or a final configured price.

This baseline is a rehearsal using the existing pilot, not a new collection. Verified configured prices in that pilot: 0. Comparisons over time: 0. No monthly rate is published.

Which products have a defined recipe?

The 18 pinned entries now have separate recipe records: 3 with a checked public preview, 14 with named catalogue choices awaiting price verification, and 1 Junior size exception.

‘With everything’ is each shop’s own recipe. These entries do not certify a common portion, counter price or meat weight. Menu option charges are not automatically added together to invent a final price.

What do the catalogues actually tell us?

We examined 36 platform entries on 13/09/2026. 18 yielded an eligible gyro wrap. This limited pilot checks product information; it does not estimate a national price or a monthly change. Entries may refer to the same business on different platforms.

No items extracted means the reader returned no products; it does not establish an empty menu. Reader A looks only for items mentioning gyro, while B and C read broader catalogues. No eligible wrap means the extracted items did not contain a qualifying wrap.

A unique catalogue identity does not prove a fixed recipe. Missing descriptions: 7. Configuration requiring further details: 8. Counts refer to selected entries and can overlap. No completed order or cooked weight was verified.

What did the follow-up find?

A separate targeted reading on 13/09/2026 examined the gaps in the pilot. Earlier files stay unchanged; these findings describe the new responses.

A menus checked

The full menu data contained 581 item entries, with no explicit gyro name. An empty gyro selection did not mean an empty catalogue. This does not prove what the shop sells outside the captured menu.

B products linked to their options

Exact product and shop identifiers connect 37 option groups and 185 options to the selected products. An accessible definition is not a completed order or a verified final price.

Even “with everything” varies: 7 product options explicitly list fries; 1 does not. This is what the catalogues state, not a measured recipe or serving weight. No national price or Index change follows from this small targeted sample.

These are offered choices, not preselected baskets. ‘From’ is the platform's displayed starting price. The zero base-price field in the detail response does not mean a free gyro.
